India is not a third world country anymore, so you need not be concerned about basic amenities here. Drinking water at hotels is very safe. If you so desire, ask for boiled water and they should provide it. Tap water is not safe for drinking.
Most tourists however, prefer bottled mineral water which is widely available even in small shops. All brands may not be available everywhere, though some brands are found throughout India.
Buy them at regular shops on the streets. At places you may visit as part of your sightseeing itinerary, they may cost more. In fact, you’re advised to take along everything you need including light snacks on sightseeing trips, as everything will cost you more, should you decide to buy it there.
